Meet Dr. Jonathan

I believe in the power of nature and the wisdom it holds for healing. Through "Nature of Medicine," I am dedicated to blending ancient traditions with modern insights to help individuals reconnect with their innate vitality. My mission is to offer holistic guidance, natural remedies, and educational resources that empower people to cultivate lasting wellness.

I trust in the body's ability to heal when given the right support, and I strive to create a space where people can explore the profound connection between nature and medicine.

Whether through herbal solutions, mindful practices, or integrative healing approaches, I am here to guide and inspire a path toward true well-being.

By honoring the rhythms of the natural world, I seek to help others find balance, resilience, and a deeper understanding of their own health.

What to Expect.

Sessions with Dr. Jonathan are designed as educational consultations to help you better understand the intersection of modern medicine, plant medicines, and holistic well-being. These sessions do not establish a doctor-patient relationship and should not be considered medical treatment, diagnosis, or personalized medical advice.

Whether you are an individual exploring plant medicines, a therapist supporting clients, or a facilitator seeking harm reduction education, Dr. Jonathan offers a space to discuss general guidance on medication interactions, the tapering process for psychiatric medications, and integrative approaches to healing. Grounded in both modern medical knowledge and traditional wisdom, these sessions provide insights and education to help you make informed decisions on your journey.

A Cultural Introduction

I was born in 1984 and raised in rural eastern North Carolina, the son of white middle-class parents. My childhood was steeped in the quiet rhythms of the land, with occasional visits to a Methodist church but no deep religious tradition to hold onto. My early path led me into the sciences—first through a degree in Biomedical Engineering at NC State University, then outward into the world through extensive travel, where I immersed myself in new cultures and languages, eventually learning to speak Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Hebrew.

Medicine became both a calling and a journey. I attended medical school in Israel at the Medical School for International Health, then returned to the U.S. to complete my Emergency Medicine residency at Indiana University. My work took me to the front lines—both in hospitals and beyond—serving with Doctors Without Borders in the Central African Republic and later shifting into integrative approaches to healing, including completing a fellowship at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine.

Spiritually, I find myself drawn to the intersections of Taoism, Buddhism, and Animism. Since 2017, I have maintained a Zazen meditation practice, mostly without a formal teacher. My deeper initiations have come through the wisdom of plant medicines, and I currently study with plant medicine teachers from Shipibo and Quechua lineages. I hold a reverence for the living world—its intelligence, its cycles, and the ways it speaks when we are quiet enough to listen.

My movement practices reflect this same philosophy of embodiment and presence. I have trained in Capoeira, ecstatic dance, CrossFit, and MovNat, seeking to understand the body as an instrument of aliveness.

Professionally, my work has evolved from conventional emergency medicine to more integrative and psychedelic-informed healing. I founded Havn Healing Center, a ketamine treatment center, which I ran from 2021–2023 before transitioning to a model that supports therapists using lozenge-based Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. I currently offer my services through Whole Systems Healthcare , supporting KAP for many therapists in Washington State. My studies continue—I am completing the CPTR program at CIIS and a fellowship in Functional Psychiatry to deepen my understanding of the mind-body connection.

My influences are many, woven together like a tapestry: Alan Watts, Ram Dass, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Charles Eisenstein, Sophie Strand, Ursula K. Le Guin. Their words, like medicine, continue to shape my thinking and my work.

This path—of science and spirit, structure and flow, medicine and myth—is always unfolding. My work is an offering, an invitation to return to the intelligence of nature, the wisdom of the body, and the alchemy of deep transformation.
